Good or bad insect

It flies and it’s very attracted to my peach trees…good or bad?

with powerful wings like that I would guess it is predatory.

Maybe a young Robber Fly. Ferocious eater of stinging wasps and other flying bugs. Has a painful wide bite. Do not try to catch one.

I’ve never seen it before and I’ve lived here 20 years

I’ve seen thousands of robber flies all my life & never had an incident with them. They zoom by my head catching other insects that follow me on the path. Robber flies in eastern WA are at least that long & much thicker, coal gray/black & scary looking. In this part of the world they achieve full size in late July & hunt until frost. (I’ve never messed with them so they haven’t found the need to defend themselves.)

Georgia has immense Robber flies.

Looks like a black soldier fly to me

I got some bagged mulch and put it around my fruit trees. I wonder if that’s where it came from

Does not look anything like our Black Solider flies. And we have tons of them on the farm. Solider flies are very beneficial anyway. Greatly aiding composting and also as secondary pollinators.

The head is all wrong for a Solider Fly. Which has big antennae and part Dragonfly like eyes. The legs are not right either.
