Grafting in early fall / late winter

In 07/30/24 I did a t-bud graft on my apricot and 09/26/24 I did a couple of bark grafts on the same apricot. I’m trying to create a multi-graft on this tree. All graft looks good right now. The buds are still viable and the scions are still green. Nothing turns black. So what should my next step be? How do I protect the graft in the winter? I’m in zone 10a/b San Diego area.

I would say as the trees defóliate maybe keep the foil over the grafts to protect them from the sun. I think that’s all you can do really. Then wait for spring to see if they have taken, could do some slight scouring above the tbuds in spring to help force growth, but other than that just wait.

Is it all right to cut/keep scions now - Late Oct-Early Nov ?
I’ve done some pruning and hate to waste some of the clippings. Some would make very nice scions - and if I can’t use them . . . perhaps someone else can.

Just from my own experience I will opine that if they were dormant when you cut them and you care for them well they will work nicely - at least, with apples. Can’t speak to anything else!

Agree with Mark
As long as you store them in fridge they can accumulate enough chill hours to grow next year
