Has any one grafted quince or medlar on them

I seem to remember someone in the medlar thread saying that medlar worked on callery pear. I might like to try that next spring.

Get ready to try both of them

Yes- I am one year into medlar on callery. So far, so good.

I’m pretty sure the feral Bradford pear blooms in NJ near the Delaware River can be seen from space, so better late than never, I guess?

I believe that Medlar is good on Callery, and @ZombieFruit has done well so far, but I believe that quince produces an enzyme that kills the graft union, a longish European pear interstem should fix that though.

Here’s a Bradford that I topworked in spring 2023. I just pruned last weekend it and it’s loaded with buds. The grafts grew extremely quickly and one blew out in a storm, but the unions are totally healed over now.

I’ve noticed the curly and brittle growth that was discussed above, most of which I’ve removed because it breaks too easily and is in the way of the mower. On the last picture you can see that the leader curled over on itself last summer and several other buds pushed to replace it.
