I plan to order some scions from burntridgenursery.
I have my heart set on toka and green gage. Per these charts, they don’t pollinize each other. A satsuma would pollinate the toka it seems. Would a Imperial Epineuse pollinate the green gage? If so, then I think I have my four to start! If not, do you have any suggestions from burntridge or would I need a different scion?
Also, do you have any general advice for growing plums in the greater philadelphia area zone 7a? I’ve heard unlike the other fruits I am starting to grow, there may be significant pressure from insects & fungus.
Here is what my search indicates:
“This tree is partially self-fertile , but both flavor and productivity will be improved by a pollenizer. Specific suggestions include Oullins Gage, Stanley, and Rosy Gage, but any other European plum will probably do the job. This is an early, green-yellow, medium-sized plum with firm yet tender amber flesh.”
I am top working several p cerasifera! It’s a wonderful rootstock for receiving stonefruits of all varieties. If you happen to find a member in your zone growing plums check to see if their blossom schedule matches your desired varieties. The best pollinizer for a plum is another of the “same type” that releases its pollen during the first week you variety is opening blossoms, that’s the most receptive time for cross pollination.
Best wishes
