It looks like a modified type of an approach graft, pretty clever though labor intensive (have to keep that tiny root ball watered). The graft itself is just a cleft graft, though complicated by keeping a lower portion on the scion.

Thanks. I was wondering if this technique is used with a high success rate on difficult to graft fruit trees.

I’m just guessing since I don’t really know much about tropical fruit, but it may be beneficial for those since there isn’t really a dormancy period?
