Granny Smith apple 2nd bloom?

What could cause a granny smith to bloom twice? 2nd bloom started today may 5th and it has apples growing on it from the first bloom.

Thanks

Not sure the cause but I do see apple trees with the odd late bloomer flowers while there’s already fruitlets on the tree.

The late blooming flowers aren’t numerous, but they do see them appear on few trees of various cultivar.

My only observance is when there is a period of dry weather followed by wet, the trees often react with activating new growth that have some blooms.

The dry interval needs to be several weeks to a month +, at least that is what I have seen.

Thinking about this some more, it could also be related to when the tree start to push the bud. Sometimes the tree may not uniformly push growth everywhere. If you graft a scion with flower bud, the scion will flower after the graft takes. So by that you can forcefully generate your own late flowers.
