A grape tree from seeds bears its first fruits this month: 12 bunches of grapes.
So far so good. Hope they are med to large grapes. I like them sweet, but a few people like them small and sour. I went hiking and came upon wild grapes. They are small and super sour. The wildlife can have them.
I have 1 grape from seed. It’s from red globe grape. It does turn red and it’s sweet. It’s med size grapes. Hopefully they get bigger each year. I heard it may take 5 years after fruiting to get the optimal size and taste.
My grapes will be five years old. I grew them from seed. It was both tiring and fun, but the most beautiful thing was the moment I picked the fruit for the first time after losing hope of it ever bearing fruit. They are green grapes with a sweet taste. Their fruit is long, not round, and they have a high sugar content.
Sweet grape is the best. It’s always exciting to try your very own sample. My seeded grape is smaller and less sweet than the original, but the vine is very strong. It produce 1 small cluster of grape the 3rd year. I enjoy it and so does the birds if I don’t net it.
This year I went to Costco to purchase a few grape plants. I wanted the black grapes. I got the Black Monukka and Autumn Royal. Both should thrive in my climate. I converted my basket ball hoop into a trellis. It took me 3 days to design and look around the house for inspiration. I’m using 15 gallon grow bag because I don’t want to dig holes. I don’t mine the root punching through the grow bag and into the ground in the future. Right now I have 2 plants hanging on trellis. I’m preparing 1 more plant, so that I could have 3 plants. 1 plant in the middle and 2 on the sides. It’s double sided metal trellis and then string, upper basket ball frame, and even the Japanese maple tree for support. The vines should be able to reach the rim one day.
wow that is pretty fast fruits within 5 years of growing from seed! let us know how it turns out comparing to the fruits of the seeded grapes you intended to grow.
very early this spring I finally seem to have figured out how to prune the himrod correctly, it’s doing well and putting out flowers! it’s year 5 or 6 I think. the past two years it’s made one sad little bunch each year. this spring when it was still icy cold I cut back everything to just two canes and ran them along the bottom of the fence and they seem much more productive.
Van Buren is on year 2 or 3. still tiny, I pruned the same way and it’s putting on a little growth of leaves. things warm up pretty late here.
I would like a third variety for the gap in between but haven’t landed on a good one yet. we like seedless if possible, table grapes only really, we just eat them.
It is still growing profusely and is tolerant of high temperatures. There was a heat wave 3 days ago at 43 degrees Celsius and the cat was not affected. Even the leaves did not wilt. It is a green sapphire grape variety. Its tree is very healthy, with smooth growth, flexible branches and large smooth leaves. . Compare it to another type I have
Another picture to compare the one I grew from seeds and the one I brought from the nursery.
This is from the nursery👆
This is a grape that I grew from seed four and a half years ago.

Anyone happen to have a picture of grape seedlings with only one or two true leaves? I realized that the birds probably established a grape breeding program alongside the gooseberry program they started on my behalf.
The green grape is from the big box store. It was supposed to be black grape. It got mislabeled.
The red grape is from seed. It got bigger this year and sweeter. It tasted very good. The seeds inside are still green, so it has time to ripen more. This is the fifth year. It’s fruited in the 3rd year. It got more room to improve as the vine mature.
Didn’t spray and it’s black rot gone wild. There’s always next year.
