'Griotella Frumi' Dwarf Sour Cherry

Hi all. I have just ordered a new dwarf sour cherry tree called Griotella. The griotte is a sour cherry in France. Montmorency is one of the varieties. This sour cherry really doesn’t grow over 6’, or less, but it is a tree, not a shrub like the Juliette series. Is anyone familiar with this dwarf cherry tree variety? thank you. MrsG

Sounds interesting. I looked to see if I could find info about how it was bred, but I didn’t find anything (I might dig more later). It appears that it might actually be straight P. cerasus rather than of hybrid origin like many of the dwarf cherries available previously. I wonder if it’s gonna make its way in to the US at some point.

I hope it does it fruits like crazy. It is a hybrid.

I just figured out that the cultivar name of this cherry is actually ‘Frumi,’ and “Griotella” is just a marketing name. Perhaps more info about its origins will come up when searching ‘Frumi.’

It looks like “Griotella” essentially just means “little cherry” and since it’s a marketing/trade name there is a chance it could end up being applied to multiple cultivars in the future (which often happens with trade names). For that reason, I think it is good to keep track of its true cultivar name, ‘Frumi’ which would distinguish it if that happens.

You can edit ‘Frumi’ into your post title if you’d like.
