Growing Fruit- The finer things in life

Growing Fruit is one of the finer things in life. Far richer fruits, nuts, and vegetables than can be bought can be produced right in the backyard. My favorites are multipurpose plants such as clove currants that produce delicious fruit and fill the orchard with the scent of cloves. Cherries are very expensive from the store but can be produced in great abundance in the backyard orchard. We seldom get all the blackberries and cherries picked. Juneberries are one of the first crops for us so are very welcome. They have an almond blueberry flavor. Mulberry are the delicious crop that produces berries over a month and a half. Pears and apples bear heavy throughout the summer until after the snow is flying. Speciality fruits such as figs, pawpaw, and persimmon can seldom be found for sale. What could possibly make our lives richer or be more rewarding than growing fruit?

Thanks, Clark. Few things in life have been as deeply rewarding for me as enjoying the fruit from trees which I planted and nurtured, watched grow into bearing age. Does require some patience, though!

Ditto Clarkinks, I totally agree with you. I can spend a whole day at work and be as productive as I can be, but there is nothing like passion for what you do in life. I love growing things and fruit is my favorite. In my neck of the woods I cannot grow sweet cherries (although I went out and bought 2 cherry trees back in Feb. of this year) and they are growing well, but everywhere I have sought out advice at, all the info was a no-no, except for sour cherries. Anyway, the things I can grow I truly appreciate. I can grow peaches (as long I keep them sprayed and maintained) muscadines, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, figs, plums, pluots, and nectarines. And yes, this makes life very rewarding and rich in my book too! Thanks for speaking on this subject!
