Hail preventive measures for melons

I wasn’t going to do it but the weather forecast promises 80% chance of thunder storms each day for the next three days. If true around here that’s certain hail. It’s just a matter of how much.

Melons are more sensitive to hail than anything else I grow. A dent in a small fruit usually leads to rot before maturity.

I put my polypropylene 30% shade cloth to use once again this morning. If it hails there could be 1,000 lbs on that thing. I hope it doesn’t pull my carport over…lol

Ouch. Hail here two years ago damaged/destroyed nearly half of my apples. It was one of those storms you could hear coming- “hail roar”.

Maybe having put it up it won’t hail. But we average five hails per yr and this is prime hail season.
