Happy Spring, I apparently meteorological spring started March 1st. Apparently Meteorological spring is a standardized, fixed period used by meteorologists and climatologists to track seasonal weather patterns consistently.
Given that factoid, I think I prefer it over astronomical spring which starts at the equinox March 20th or 21st
I think falls right at the beginning of change in NJ rather then in the thick of it.
The change has been dramatic here. True, we had an exceptionall mild winter for the most part, but suddenly, within the last week, things just changed. Magpies are nest-building, flickers are getting territorial, and two days ago I saw about 30 turkeys with the toms all doing their display -a thoroughly civilized way of sorting things out, I thought.
But we’ll still see some low temps, I suspect; even now overnight lows are in the mid 20’s F with daytime highs about 50 F. Too much, too soon, I would say, but still welcome.
while we have a little less snow its been over all pretty cold. no -30 but daytime temps were colder than normal and lots of wind. looking forward to the thaw.
