I have been removing varieties at a rapid pace, for example a week ago I removed over a dozen. When I sent things to Rick it had many more apples than are on the list, and it has things on it I have removed recently.

These varities are becoming more and more difficult to find. I recently was given contact information for another gentleman growing one of a kind pear varities. I’m doing my best to stick to fire blight resistant pears and that is not easy. All I can think about is Abate fetel aka abbé fetal, forrelle, Concorde, comice, bosc and many others.
Just realized how rare ST. Nicholas is as I’m getting ready to bench graft some. It was not pulling any google results.

Saint Nicholas is very rare as you said! Its a pear that came to most of us by way of the Nick Botner collection. The description is even more obscure but here is what we know " SAINT NICHOLAS Found as St. Nicholas in the collection of Nick Botner in Oregon, he kindly sent scions in 2010. This pear has variously been known as Duchesse D’Orléans, Beurré St. Nicholas and other names, and there is some confusion as to whether they are all the same. Saint Nicholas was first noted in Britain in 1826, in the LHS collection at Chiswick. All these pears are now missing. Scott says Beurré St. Nicolas was a wilding discovered at St. Nicolas, Angers, France, first fruiting in 1839. Hogg gives no origin, calling it Duchesse D’Orléans, while giving the other names as synonyms. Scott’s and Hogg’s descriptions vary in the season of ripening Scott says ‘one of the best of early pears’, ripening in September, while Hogg says it ripens in October. They agree that it is a large, dessert pear, with sweet, juicy, melting flesh. Ours, as with Scott, ripens in September and is very melting and fine fleshed, juicy and sweet with a caramel flavour. I have a very small Saint Nicholas i got from you several years ago. Its growing in clay soil on callery rootstock in much less than an ideal place and doing fine. Thought i would offer some kind of description since like the pear it may dissapear by the next time someone searches for it.

The Duchesse D’Orleans Pear. Beurre St. Nicholas
The Duchesse d’Orleans is ranked unanimously, as far as we are informed by those who have tested it in this country, as one of the best new varieties from abroad. It was first introducd by Mr. Kenrick, and noticed in the seventh edition of his American Orchardist. It was first fruited by Robert Manning, of Salem, and within two or three years past in several parts of the country. It is figured and described in the first volume of Hovey’s Fruits of America. Withal, we have not been able to trace its origin, and we are inclined to think it is from Germany. It has fruited in our collection three years. The first year we formed a poor opinion of it, but we found afterwards that we injured it by leaving it too long on the tree. Our colored plate was made from a specimen grown by H. P. Norton, Esq., of Brockport, N. Y., who has had it in bearing for two or three years, and we believe thinks highly of it."

Anyone have scionwood for Saint Nicholas?

The only one besides me I know for sure who grows it is my friend Mike at https://39thparallel.com/ . Someone who has an extensive pear collection is @scottfsmith which may make my own collection look dwarfed though I’m sure our varities are different. My tree is small less than 6 feet. Mike is sold out of scions I think as well for now in 2021. The usda may have it but I’m not sure of that. Some of these pears are ultra rare. Typically @39thparallel comes here and gathers scion wood. As I said my tree is to small I think this year. In the last couple of years I don’t seem to get scion wood gathering done due to time constraints and health issues. Hopefully that changes in the future. This topic when I created it was all about the diversity Wagon Wheel Orchard and other Kansas growers have. I think your best bet is wait until Mike at 39thparallel gathers scion wood in a couple of months. In the event the tree has some to spare and I feel up to it I will send you some out free of charge I always pay it forward. Many of these guys make their living selling scions and trees but I’m not in that category. I’m disappointed in myself not having been able to give away scions recently.

I’m not in it for the cash, PERIOD. I’m solely here to steward rare fruit trees. The profit my farm makes goes directly back into the ground. My day job pays for my expensive stewarding activities. 
But I’ll definitely keep Mike in mind and I always appreciate any help from other members. Appreciate the pay it forward sentiment!

Yes many people help each other in this community as much as we can. Some years I have paid $200 in postage sending scions out free of charge. If I feel more like it I want to do it again
