greens, herbs, a few mushrooms, couple asparagus and rhubarb. radishes of course. the lilacs!!!
i made a big salad. and sneaky noodle (putting thin sliced greens and veg in as they cook) with a poached duck egg in the bowl. corn i froze last year, dried peppers, a sad carrot, yellow oysters i grew and dried.
another basket from day before yesterday. what all does everyone use to harvest with? I’m impatient and pick every other day with most things so i get a lot of varied stuff. the flat baskets are easiest for me, I’ve got two and am making another for picking.
so good! the poached egg and chili peppers send it over the top. there’s a restaurant in Eugene right by my old house there that just does fancy ramen- their menu was wild but i use a lot of my garden veg and make noodle bowls like this for lunch now because of them. i ate a ton of ramen in art school and never realized it should be more of a real full meal with “stuff” added, until i went to that place. i like to put a bit of sweet corn on top and a pat of butter on top of that, like a top dressing. it’s mixes in and gets delicious.
just any kind of veg works in it. the crunchy chili paste is good but just crushing dried hot peppers from last year’s garden works too. and i can use up greens this way, slice thin to they are long strips to match the noodle.
I’ve been harvesting too much too fast to make anything look nice for photos. Drowning in greens, which is a “problem” I’m really happy to have. But, I picked more controlled (small!) baskets this morning for mom’s daily salad, so here we go:
Been making a lot of regular blackberry jelly and blackberry pepper jelly. Green beans have swarmed us. Put up maybe 100 packs of green beans in the freezer. Blackberry pop ice hard to beat
Had to get some carrots and parsnips out; they were shading my hot peppers. Parsnips weren’t ready, but they needed to go. Weird shapes this year which I attribute to rushed sowing and inadequate thinning.
The broom stick garlics were starting to rot. We’ll see if they store or rot.
Fruits from grafts made Spring 2025. Wife and I agree Dapple Dandy is the winner, though the Flavor Supreme taste & look suspiciously similar to DD. Wonder if the FS scion I traded for got mislabeled. Also not so sure about the Flavor Grenade since it doesn’t look similar to pictures on the web. The Shiro and FG(?) may have been picked early and not very good..
