Hazelnut varieties zone 5

Varieties of hazelnuts that grow in zone 5 are Geneva, Northern, Santium, Jefferson, Slate, Het 3, Aldara.

Hazelnuts grow like a bushy tree or a shrub. Hazelnut trees will send up sucker shoots from the ground from the root system.

Hazelnut trees will grow between 12 - 25 feet in height.

Some of these hazelnuts mentioned are either Oregan produced or Ontario produced cultivars.
Highly resistant to eastern filbert blight.

If you’re east of the rockies, U of Oregon varieties are only resistant to 1 EFB isolate, and we have potentialy dozens. Santiam and jefferson will die. Rutgers have the new varieties that are very resistant or immune.
