Heavy Hitter seed

Saving okra seed. Heavy Hitter performed well. The pods seemed to be about the same length as Clemson Spineless but the diameter was bigger. The plants grew more side limbs thus producing more pods. It performed well enough that I’m saving seeds so when I got tired of cutting okra a while back let my six best plants start to go to seeds. Each plant has about six pods so it looks like I will have way more seeds than I could possibly use.

Question. Can okra seeds be mailed out in a small letter type envelope?

You can legally mail seed as gifts to most states, provided the plant is not on the invasive or prohibited species list. I’ve never seen okra on either. Hawaii requires a phyto certificate or equivalent for import of any plant.

Thanks Richard

Use a bubble mailer. Mail handling equipment will damage seed in a regular envelope.

Thanks

I’ve been watching the pods to see when they dry out. Several are starting to dry but one appeared to be completely dry. I picked it and was amazed at how many seeds were in the average size pod. I counted 85 of what looked like high quality seeds. Unless you’re planting a huge amount of okra, one pod of seeds is all you need. My plans are to save seed from my best five plants and then plant a few from each in 2024. Would you do anything different?
