I would suspect Leafhopper damage. Surround or ORTHO® FLOWER, FRUIT VEGETABLE (Assial) would be effective for control.

Just going to add: if you want to check for leafhoppers, John, you will see very small somewhat grasshopper-like critters crawling and, well, hopping around on the leaves. You will also see little bumps on the underside of the leaves, especially along the veins and especially on the leaves closest to a growing tip. (The ends of the branches, in other words.) As I understand it, the bumps are actually an immature stage of the hoppers, and they are the ones directly doing the damage by sucking juice out of the leaves. If you only have a small number of trees to look after, you can limit the damage by removing the bumps by hand (rubbing them off/smushing them without damaging the leaf). And of course, squashing whatever hoppers you can catch, but that can be quite a bit more challenging. And in my experience, the hoppers seem to do less damage as trees get older and better established. So, if this is a young/recently planted tree, and you don’t have too many trees to look after, smushing may be a good option. (From what I have read, one difficulty with spraying is that you need to get pretty direct contact for it to work well, and the hoppers are highly mobile while the bumps are tucked away on the undersides of the leaves, making both potentially difficult targets. No personal experience, though.)

Excellent, this helpful feedback, I’m going to take a closer look when I get home
