hello friends!
i love these grapes from my mom house. she planted them about 6 years ago when they first moved it. and she doesnt remember what is the name. she bought the grape plant locally in nursery. we live in PNW.
it is seedless green color. it is not interlaken i can confirm that. it is not himrod either. it seems like green mascat. it has slip skin small-med fruit size. small loose clusters. please help identify. thank you!
Could be Lakemont. I think Starkbros.com is selling them. I used to have two Lakemont vines at my old house and my children really liked them at the time.
Tony
thank you so much tony! lakemont does match the profile! : ) ill have ask agian she also had a red one it sweeter than lakemont same fruit size i dont liek it as much as lakemont she didnt give me much either for photos. ill be posting for the red one soon.
They look a lot like my Niagra grapes. If so they are wonderful grapes! I love them.
these are not niagara grapes i had niagara grapes before these dont fit the same flavors. thank you for your suggestion : )
OK…I’m not too surprised…on second look I think my Niagara have a little more of a yellowish tint and are a little smaller in size. Of course, since I bought them at a big box store I will never really be sure if my Niagara are even really Niagara! Anyway, good luck figure out yours.
the niagara i tried tasted was more tart when others were sweet. it was medium berries nice full clusters unlike these ones from my mom.
Hmmm… thanks for that but it certainly suggests one of us didn’t get Niagaras- probably mine. Mine are definitely loose clusters and very sweet. As I said they are also usually smaller than most grapes and have a bit of yellowish tint the more they ripen…also get just a very slight touch of red on the bunches that get full sun. But whatever they are, they sure are good. Mine were also fairly early for grapes. THey are the first of my 7 varieties to ripen. Sorry I couldn’t help more…sounds like we both may have a mystery grape on our hands now!
hi @Seattlefigs have you compared PNW-grown himrod and/or interlaken with Lakemont? How’s the taste and crunchiness? I’m guessing the closer to August month it ripens, the better as that’s the middle of hot summer season.
interlaken was very sweet compared to lakemont himrod is a little sweeter than lakemont.
none of them crunchy. i think same soft texture.
tnx, was himrod significantly more productive than interlaken?
did any of them have more of a tart grape flavor than the others? I think that’s more interesting than pure sweetness and no tart at all.
Niagara is a fox or river grape, like concord. It has the classic Welch’s white grape juice flavor. Also seeded, but slip skin.
Most of the others you mention- himrod, lakemont- are seedless table grapes bred in Geneva, NY. They aren’t slipskin. Hard to go on vague descriptions like sweet or tart. Could be one of those, though I don’t think so. Himrod is small with loose clusters of slightly pink grapes.
I’d look to see what Raintree nursery sells as PNW grapes. Probably it’s something well adapted there, which would narrow things down some.
interlaken is more productive than himrod. the lakemont had more balance of sweet and tart than the very sweet interlaken.
