Help identifying this egg/pupa

I found these scattered on several branches on an apple tree in my orchard. I’ve never seen them before. Does anybody recognize them? They look a bit like lady bug pupae, but I don’t recall seeing them look this round.

I finally turned up something on the internet. This is lecanium scale. It’s not considered a serious pest unless it has densely populated a host plant. Fortunately, there aren’t too many of them and the tiny eggs inside haven’t hatched yet. I’m off to squish scale.
