I just took a hike through the orchard and noticed that my low chill apple is waking up. I see a number of buds opening up and this is definitely not going to end well. It’s supposed to drop below freezing next week so I assume my chance of getting apples from this tree is pretty much zero? All of my other apples are still sleeping which is good.
Those low chill apples are best in Z9 and warmer, maybe Z8. Usually Z7 and colder climates have at least some spring frost risk. But it may bloom over a long period or have a second bloom latter in the yr. In warm long season areas they usually bloom and fruit twice a yr.

I definitely realize that now. I’m thinking about removing it and starting over with something that has significantly higher chill hours. Either that or grafting 3 higher chill varieties to the root stock.
