Holes in persimmon leaves? Ants, beetles?

Any idea what’s eating my persimmon leaves?
I have only ever seen one or two ants on the tree.
This tree has only been in the ground for maybe 3 months but I imagine it’s two years old

Not ant damage, and not strictly holes. Several other insects are a possibility: Leaf-cutting bees (one or a few individuals might not use that much leaf), weevils or other beetles (edge notching, sometimes at night), sawfly larvae (usually very obvious in daylight, irregular edge feeding).

I found a hornet walking all over the leaves today. Could hornets be eating the leaves?

No I don’t think so but they might be hunting what is eating the leaves.

I just saw leaf cutter ants chewing on baby persimmon tree new growth. Any way to deter them? I just sprinkled the fireant killer but not sure it would work on leaf cutter.

They are on mine also, not sure why but they love persimmon leaves

I can only find these ants located in CA-AZ-TX-LA.

Tell that to these leaf cutter ants in NC haha

I put some fire ant killer around the base of the tree and it seems that either deterred them or they took the bait and I did not see any ants the next day. The ants did had a liking for only persimmon baby leaves, I have jujube, figs, mulberry, peach near the persimmon and they would only cut persimmon leaves.

I had leaf cutters destroying my tree spinach plants. I poured ant killer directly in the ant hills. They haven’t come back since.

…apparently these ants have expanded their range!
