How Do I Plant This?

It’s a long Caddo blackberry root and not the broomstick handle bare root plant I was expecting.

stretch it out and bury a few in. deep. it should send shoots all along the roots. or you can divide them and space them out.

When I dug up some of my illini blackberry roots for a propagation test… i found some nice roots just 2-3 inches under the soil.

What Steve said… should work.

It did not on illini… but does on most other blackberries.

Good Luck !!

Pense has blackberry root cuttings for sale… (bundles of 100).

Looks like they may be 8 inch or so long.

It says 60-80% success rate.

1 review. Said he had 98% success rate… squirrels dug some of his up.

I have a squirrel problem too and built some small hardware cloth cloches over the weekend to protect my young plants including this one.

It have been about three weeks since planting the root and no signs of life yet. It has been warm and the wettest April in recorded history for my area as of Monday. Another three weeks and I can request a refund or credit for next year. Purchased a back-up plug plant because I really want to try this blackberry next year. Hopefully I don’t need it. All the other bare root plants I purchased are showing signs of new growth.
