How do i prune this overgrown, mature Mirabelle plum?

How do i ID a mirabelle and make sure it is not some other sort?
And how do i even prune this Bush? Should i remove All the branches and leave one stem, make scaffolds or make a central leader?

No idea, please help. Thanks.

This is only one idea. What could be done,is cut out the middle and pick two to three main trunks, that are furthest away from each other.
If possible choose them,so they all get a southern exposure. That way,one won’t outgrow another. As they grow, keep cutting any branches inward toward the others.

Just a heads up: I could be wrong but I think plums are recommended to be pruned in summer since they get sick from wet weather easily. Obviously, contingent on what April weather looks like in your area.

A mirabelle plum is a tree, not a bush.

Is it possible they’re a load of suckers from where some sort of prunus once stood?

Yes, its a plum.

But then they’re probably some sort of rootstock rather than a plum variety chosen for is eating qualities.
