My Lemon Zest seedling has about 4 shoots all with tight crotch angles and is growing rapidly at about 4feet tall. I know LZ is vigorous so this seedling will be also. How do I train or prune it to maximize the chances of fruiting at a reasonable size?
I do have a grafted LZ that could be grafted onto the seedling at some point. But right now, I’m not sure that the grafted LZ is going to survive. It’s not growing yet this spring and is very small.
Hiya, Mr Steve! Any updates on this? Has it grown any more since then, or was that the only push last year? I just tipped my young LZ and am curious to see how it will branch out this summer. If it branches out in weird, uneven ways, I’ll just tip it back to the multi-node point to force multiple branching from that node - and then pick and choose the best 3 of those branches to grow on. That way, I’m trying form low growing scaffolding branches and whatnot, lol. More of a small bush form, rather than a tall lanky tree. So I’m super curious what you ended up doing with yours!
