How is your weather? (Part 1)

Mild, overcast , some rain this week.

Any snow left around you?

Around here sunny areas are snow free, still plenty in the shadows.

Next week still has a shot of 70F or better (Weds)…it doesn’t last long…back to normal after that with a good push of colder air. Still back to more typical weather. Probably prime time right now for tapping maples.

The frog that has been living in my house all winter gets put outside today. His cricket chirping noise is waking my wife up every night.

Unfortunately very wintery here…lots of cold and a moderate amount of snow (crusty/icey) still on the ground. This storm system swirling around over Eastern Canada has been a major PITA…NW wind has been horrible. Every time I read about a warmer than normal month for our area…it seems to do the opposite.

It’s warm outside and will get warmer by end of this weekend. We still have few inches of snow in the yard but should be melted soon. I found my apple rootstocks(was going to graft) were stripped down and I am not sure if they will recover.

I guess you can cut lower than you had planned an graft. Either that or bury the whole thing and create a ‘stool’ for growing many future rootstocks?

That first pic looks like the bunnies chewed up your tree and left you some free “fertilizer”

No, the 5 to 6 inches or rain took away whatever snow or ice was lingering in deep shade around here. That was Sunday, afternoon and night. Once we are past Sunday night, forecast says we are staying above 30 at night. Time to plant potatoes, peas, onions , at least for the brave here in KY. (If the ground were dry enough to till…and it will be by next Tues and Wed.)

{Did I mention I sprayed apples with Dormant Oil on Wednesday?}

Fertilizer all over the place. Do you want some? I can pack the wabbit and send your way😜

Well, ultra dwarf G41. Don’t know if it will sucker.

Probably would…but I’ve not tried. M111 and B118 are easy.

Voles and/or rabbit.

The rabbit in my backyard was eating the bark off a bunch of apple limbs i cut off this fall the past few weeks (just had a pile laying there–no harm i was just going to burn them at some point)… He also trimmed 2 nectarines to everything he could reach

Yeah…the east is stuck in that until this warmth can move that way. Omaha was 66F yesterday. Was 53F here but a little cooler today. You’ll have to wait until mid next week for the warmth to show up. Just going off the GFS i’m not sure how long your warm spell will last when it does arrive…might be short lived.

We might see warmer temps in the plains/midwest then in Florida. Temp anon for Sun afternoon (monday is even colder for Florida)

wicked windy here still. -0f windchill. no real warm up in sight. knew this mild winter was too good to be true.

Awwww tooo bad!

Forgot a pepper plant outside last night. That one is a goner. Even had fruit on it (has been flowering the past month). 21F melted it.

Should be around 50F today. Upper 50Fs tomorrow (maybe 60?) and then 60F+ Mon-Thurs (rain late week and cooler after)…just a taste of spring.

We’re probably OK, but 60’s sounds dangerous for Wisconsin doesn’t it?

60Fs are fine…but probably don’t want/need it much warmer. Ground is still frozen at least in my yard (tried digging out some buried pots…would need a jack hammer). Was low 50Fs today… nice because it wasn’t windy, but still chilly. Plenty of little snow piles in spots/typical parking lot glaciers. I had my tomato plants outside all day today, along with artichokes, and all my house plants.

Gonna spray the dormant oil tomorrow

I should probably do that soon. I usually just spray copper. Seems to keep almost all plc away.

Some wind this morning. Around 40F. If we get enough soon maybe make that 60F mark (1st time since Nov 19). Des Moines showing 71F this afternoon.
