I think the trees lose their winter hardiness quickly in these temps (had 50F here today), but i doubt they move at all until we get some regular 60Fs or warmer…which does look possible that second week of March.

Park was full of people today, but was really messy with the melting snow. River is opening a little, but still a lot of ice out there. I think the rising water levels should start breaking it up quickly.

We hit mid 40s today. It feels spring!

With no lows below 37°F in the 10-day forecast, I decided to call it and start planting out the loquats (these are seedlings of the prolific producer in Seattle’s International District):

Depending on the models and how wrong they are, next Sunday-Weds have potential of being 60F or warmer up here.

Hopefully we can get most of the rest of the snow gone before then.

just got another 4in.last night. supposed to get -30f windchill starting this afternoon into tom. gust to 40mph. can you say ground blizzard? only a advisory out but windchills like that can get very dangerous and if stuck in a drift you could get hit by another that couldnt see you. every year we hear of people killed like this here. usually young drivers that werent prepared or didnt know any better.

The day started sunny and in the 40s. Now the wind is blowing the snow sideways.

We had all rain here today…got up to 40. The fields are going to be skating rinks with the NW wind blowing though tonight and dropping to near zero. I smell power outages coming…could be a very cold night for those that don’t have generators.

Got up to 59°F and sunny today, almost felt like summer! Was a big challenge to keep myself focused on work, just wanted to be out in the yard instead…

“Freight train” wind last night and this morning hasn’t stopped…easily sustained 30-40MPH with gusts over 50. Temp is 4 & wind chill is about -10.

Cold seems to hang around the northeast until early next week…then some good warming/not sure how long it lasts. One interesting change is a much cooler pattern for Florida/even south Florida. Might see temps warmer in the plains/midwest then S Florida in this pattern. Also cooler out west across California.

We were 17F and that felt cold for how m ild it has been. Strong south winds over this way right now should bring some good warming for the next week-10 days. Still on tap for 60F ish late weekend/early next week.

Around here when temps in the spring get that “warm” you’ll see clowns out in shorts and tshirts. When it was -12F one morning i was at a stop sign and i watched some dude on a bicycle pass by me. No way. My cut off for biking is about 50F. I did see a motorcycle riding this past weekend.

lol! yeah theres always a few that like to buck the cold weather. had a guy i used to work with would wear shorts and sandals in all but -0f. he would come to work with shorts, wool socks and sandals. some guys ride motorcycles with snowmobile suits on as long as the roads are clear. nuts! im guilty of going out in the spring at 50f in short sleeve. the sun feels so warm that time of year.

Some people are just immune to cold i think. Not me. I will say that i prefer a little cooler temps if there is no wind and full sunshine.

When i worked at a warehouse we had 2 or 3 guys that wore shorts all winter. That place was not warm (big metal building) The crazy thing is if they were warm during winter, in summer we had no AC in there and just had big cattle type fans…plus summers were always busy so you had to pick up the pace. It was like an oven.

i much prefer the cold over hot and humid any day. you can always add clothes but can only take off so much.

We got down to 0F last night, wind dumped half of a double trunk Poplar tree in the driveway, the other half is still up, held by a narrow section of trunk and ready to drop on the power lines, fiber optic and transformer leading to the house. Got the top cleared from the driveway, but the snow is 2’ deep down there and it will wait till spring to get cut and chipped. Hope the rest of it stays up till we can drop it in the right direction.

I know how it is. After the cold and snow, 50 degrees feels like a heat wave. Students here do start wearing shorts and sandals when it hits 50.

Usually i need about 65F or warmer to really feel warm enough for shorts/tshirt.

Bismarck, ND was 62F this afternoon. That air should be slowly moving this way.

Lock it in until about June 1st

Since the flooding Sunday/Monday (near 6 inches rain in Somerset, KY)…it’s been warm days and chilly nights in the mid to upper 20’s.
Daytime from upper 40’s to mid 50’s … and nights in mid to upper 20’s through Sunday night…
then it becomes snake crawling weather in the 60’s and possibly up to 70 NEXT week.
