Last week I received a tiny Issai Mulberry which I believe is a Morus Alba. I believe it’s quite similar to Girardi. I potted it in a 5 gallon grow bag. It’s looking quite peaked. I set it outside with my potted figs and have been moving it into my unheated garage during the recent freezing temps. I have a qouple of questions. Considering this plant is only about 5 inches tall are the 5 gallon grow bags too large? Secondly, would it be better to let this plant grow and get comfortable inside my house until the weather is consistantly warmer like in the 70’s?
This is a picture of the plant in the condition I received it.
Here it is in the conditions I’m growing it along with some figs.
In my limited experience they are pretty frost resistant. Should full a 5 gallon in no time!
I was hoping not too soon. This tree is supposed to be a small bush ~4’ from what I understand.
I guess I should clarify, my mulberry knowledge stema from the wild ones that grow like crazy and are nearly indestrictible.
I hear you. I don’t know much about mulberries at all. Seems like one of the more complex tree fruits due to the gender issues and huge variation in size and growing conditions between the cultivars. I was just intrigued by the thought of an everbearing fruit that I could grow in a pot on my patio.

Is it a grafted specimen, or a rooted cutting?
If grafted onto seedling M.alba understock, the root system will likely be quite aggressive and fill that 5 gal bag pretty quickly.
If on its own roots… probably more slowly. I have no knowledge of dwarf mulberries, but ‘dwarf’ specimens of other species are often dwarfed because they have feeble root systems - compared to their more robust cohorts in the larger population.
Says it only grows 2-4’ so im hopefull that it doesn’t turn into a beast. I’ll pot it up when the time comes.

Here is a current picture of the Issues mulberry. About 10 weeks after the initial potting. Seems to be much healthier now. No signs of fruit but looks good. You can see how growth it about on.
