I used a 5’ Iron bar (San Angelo bar) to make the hole, generally 2-2.5 feet deep. Then I put at least one rock on each side of the post and used the iron bar to drive it into the ground, securing the post. I used the same approach for all the fruit tree posts, except most of them are the 1 3/8" top rails, rather than the 1 5/8" posts.
In over 10 years, none of them came out on their own. But, in the event that I need to get one out, I can do it, unlike with concrete. To do so, I use a rubber strap wrench to twist the post while lifting. The main reason I’ve done that is when I decided that trees were too close and moved one. I then re-purposed the post from the moved tree.

Soreli is a tetraploid yellow kiwi that has done well for Scott and is very good. His scion came from me, and it never bloomed for me for some reason. If you are thinking about grafting yellow kiwi to arguta, they won’t be compatible long term. I have hybrids (Kens Red x chinensis) that should be very hardy and need testing as an interstem. If you decide to try it, let me know this fall or winter and I can send some cuttings.
I also have a male SunGold seedling that should be a good pollinizer for Soreli or other tet yellow kiwis. It survived the Christmas 22 flash freeze that killed most chinensis to the ground here, with no damage. Golden Sunshine from Auburn has not been very hardy here, so I would not recommend it.
