LOL now the many other asian pears, like kosui, hosui, shinglo, raja, chojuro, shinko. they are all brown skin that is even harder for me to tell them apart. can anyone give me some tips on how you know what asian pears are what variety? right now my pears are a month away from ripening, when do you know asian pear is ripe? Well I can’t help much but Korean Giant (aka Olympic Asian pear) makes big, apple-shaped, full russet, brown crispy Asian pears, ripe at the end of the season, hanging even after leaf fall, October picking in zone 5.
Raja is an early bearing one, but flowers at the same time as Korean Giant, flowering group 2.
I don’t know much more about them, but fruiting times probably will help you differentiate them.
Try this too:

Shinko, if grown properly, is huge as well and yellow’ish compared to Korean Giant.
And honsui is smaller than the ^ two above.
That’s all i got hope this helps
