How Vigorous is your Pawpaw?

I have. Mine are still sticks. The ones in the containers that I’m experimenting with are much more vigorous, especially the Tallahatchie.

On a side note, I had tried to stimulate cultivars to root themselves. I had them buried below the graft in deep treepots. I since transplanted them into real deep resin pots while they were dormant and I didn’t observe any roots developing at all. They have all leafed out for year two.

Well, it’s almost two years later, I had to repot my experiment as either the soil compacted or was slowly exiting the drainage holes. Anyway, they had really nice root systems, but it appears that it’s all from the rootstock and nothing still from the cultivar side. At least my Shenandoah is still alive and thriving and didn’t die back at the graft union like my original stick did.

Thanks for the update! Sorry to hear you didn’t have success yet with self rooting but it’s to be expected with pawpaws.
