I’m in the process of starting a hugelkultur where I need to improve my soil after removal of two huge cedar trees. To improve one area which has extremely poor soil on a dry hardpacked hillside I plan to use the below process and am now starting Step#1: Planting the strip about 8’ -10’wide with crimsom clover. Then in springtime after the clover is growing well I will start the next steps. In the springtime I will be planting my plum trees on the uphill side of the strip. About 7’ away from sidewalk.
If you have used this process in the attachment I would like to hear how it went and if you think it achieved your goals. My goals are two: soil enrichment and improving water retention.
