I tried one of these for the first time today. It’s a large apple, a cross between Honeycrisp and Crimson Crisp. It’s pretty good for one of the newer crisp apples. It has a more complex flavor than Honeycrisp and many of the other crisp apples.

I saw Hunnyz apples in a local “farmers market” chain location earlier this week. I was struck by the intense yellow coloration of the skin, as well as the attractive red blush that the fruit had developed. I wasn’t in an apple-eating mood (I rarely am), but I might give them a try and see how well they might complement a plate of Spanish Manchego cheese.

I’ve really enjoyed the few I have eaten. Crisp, juicy, and a decent sweet flavor. Almost need a napkin to not make a mess.
