A while ago, I set out to graft a starfruit tree-Carambola-to a cultivar growing at a neighbor’s. Of six grafts, one took. So I unwrapped it

But immediately it started dying 
All that growth dried out and fell off. So I left it alone. To my amazement, lower buds woke up and started growing …

Moral of the story: Don’t be in a hurry to unwrap grafts, especially in hot weather…

Nice going…!! That looks like a massive graft. Can you post a little wider view. I don’t think I’ve seen another like that.
