I finally snagged all three of the Boreal series haskaps

I got lucky and was able to get the last of the plants I needed for this triplet. Now I have the Boreal Blizzard, Boreal Beauty and Boreal Beast plants.

These come from the University of Saskatchewan and most people seem to like them. I think you need all three for proper pollination.

Now I just have to get my hands on the Maxine Thompson varieties. Which is turning out to be difficult. I thought they were highly popular but not many places seem to have them in stock.

Those are a good combo. Yes they will pollinate each other and I think you will be happy with them.

I have never ordered from this company, but since you are in the PNW it might work out for you. It looks like they only carry the Maxine Thompson cultivars.

Shipping closed now. Maybe next year anyway.

HoneyberryUSA carries many of the Maxine Thompson varieties as well-

Their shipping season is closed until November. You are probably better off waiting until that passes and put in an order in the Jan- March window so you can receive your plants in April or May and watch them grow and thrive.

And you can check out berries unlimited and just read the descriptions and look for Japanese genetics. These are not Maxine Thompson but you still might find some good ones.

I have those 3, plus aurora. Just put them in this spring from honeyberryusa. All seem to be doing well.

I’d suggest ordering from HBU and planting in the fall to let the roots establish over the winter. Honeyberries have really shallow roots. I’ve ordered from HBU twice and have always gotten great plants.

Thank you!

Heres my hbusa (3 of 4 are same variety as yours) they were received and planted this april. Just to give you an idea on the size of their plants.

I like your boxes … Are the posts concreted or just directly in soil?

They are literally a single cedar fence post cut in 4 and screwed to a 5.5" tall 4x4. Just there to protect from mowing and dogs. Cost about 6 bucks a piece to make.

I did similar for my blueberries as we have very alkaline soil. Just cedar fence pickets, but these use 2x4’s on the outside for more structure. These are also not anchored, just ploped on the ground and filled with growing medium.

Nice!

Nice! I planted those a few years ago, together with Vostorg, Lawina, Aurora, Giant’s heart, and Blue treasure. I found that Boreal beauty grows narrow and upright, with quite a few broken branches (fat pigeons trying to sit on it I guess), but very large berries. Boreal beast grows as a low dense bush with smaller berries. Nice to see how different all the haskaps are, with so much genetic variation.
