After a few years of settling in, my Cherry Cox finally produced the first (very small) crop this year. I mostly want to share this in case someone else will be looking it up later - I always struggle to find reports on various unconventional apple cultivars when deciding what to plant.
I overall really liked this apple and my picky 5yo, who plays the role of an “unbiased judge” when sampling, finished the entire apple and asked for more so I guess it’s good. While it has some tart in it, I would definitely describe it as a sweet apple and the the flavor is very rich and complex. Its texture was the largest surprise and I can’t really map it on any of the modern apples - it’s not a crunchy/crisp apple but it’s not mushy either. If I were to choose one word to describe the texture, I’d go with “dense” and it got a bit of getting used to.
you got scion wood?
I originally got it from Raintree, although I soured on that nursery since then and avoid them now. A quick google search shows at least a few other nurseries carry that tree, I’d try pinging them, or maybe search this forum to see if someone has a more mature tree.
