These pictures are from a Spring Satin Plumcot I planted last Spring. Is this swelling the BEGINNING of black knot? Or, is it bacterial canker? I know what black knot looks like in the end. It has been in the ground 1 yr. I had a Pluerry nearby to definitely develop Black Knot.
What is the best way you have found to reduce the incidence of this fungal disease?
I don’t know, but that looks like normal bark development and wound healing to me.
As far as I know, there were no wounds to heal…unless I missed something.
To me, it looks like a branch was pruned at the red arrow, and the blue arrow looks like it could either be a larger branch being pruned or the bark adapting to rapid trunk growth. You might have some bark inclusion where the yellow arrow is, but I’m not sure. Apologies to color blind folks, and I’m still learning, so take this all with a grain of salt.
Doesn’t look like the black knot in my yard. Mine the bark surface is not smooth
I’ve seen a lot of this over the years. It looks like scaring from canker. Spray. Black Knot is unmistakable. It looks like dog poo on your branches.
Exactly! Common name is poop on a stick. I agree some form of canker or nothing at all.
What is the best spray for bacterial canker?
Indar.
I was thinking it might be the initial swelling of black knot because the tree is close to a pluerry that had black knot
Definitely not black knot.
