Thanks to a generous forum member I was given several mulberry varieties (10). I made an early round of grafts and four took. My IE mulberry tree was growing and getting out of control so I cut the new limbs off and on a whim pulled out my refrigerated scions and grafted onto the new limbs. Looks like this time they are all growing. New limbs and timing seems to have worked.

You can take it further than that. Often I try stuff specifically designed to have a high failure rate just to see what will happen. I like to test and see if conventional wisdom is correct.

Now that you have the graft you wanted just practice other graft techniques and even what you would consider less than ideal grafts. Purposely flirting with failure will teach you a lot more than success.
