Immature fruit dying on Meyers Lemon

A question for all the citrus experts out there: Some of the immature lemons on my trees in the GH are dying while at the 1/4" to 1/2" stage. They seem fine then within a few days of the last check, I find them black in color and their stems dried and brown. This does not effect all of the fruit (usually) but varies as to how many it takes. Not sure what it is, but does not seem to be a disease in that it does not spread down the plant, but seems to be limited to immature lemons and their stems. Seems like it might be the lemon tree’s way of aborting fruit?

I was wondering if any of the folks here more familiar with citrus know that this is and what causes it.

Expecting a white Xmas, snow tonight and tomorrow but sunny, windy and 20F right now. Happy holidays everyone!

As a general rule citrus sets far more fruit than the tree can maintain, then self aborts a large part of it, usually when the fruit is fairly small.

When I had my lemon tree that was common. I suspected it takes pollination thing, but I really don’t know. But it’s normal in my limited experience.
