I searched for pear pollination types and timing today because I want to find a very very late pollinator for a tree growing in my yard. It is in full bloom now which is 12 days after Warren and other pollination group 3 varieties finished blooming. Along the way, I noted Beurre Bosc which is pollination group 5. I have not found any group 6 varieties. Can anyone point out one?
Burnt Ridge has this and Shipova might be an option (but I don’t grow it)
ARS GRIN Pyrus if you search by late bloom
I think Bosc would be your latest common best option
‘Double de Guerre’, ‘Hacon’s Incomparable’, ‘Highland’, ‘Pero Nobile’, ‘Savannah’, and ‘Scarlet Soft’, they are all group 6, ‘flowering group number 6’ is also known as ‘Pollination group F’
3 of those pears are available in the USA, they are ‘Highland’, ‘Savannah’, and ‘Scarlet Soft’
@coolmantoole knows more about ‘Savannah’ than I do, he grows it, and he appears to live around the area that the tree was discovered.
And the following 3 links are for ‘Highland’
The following link is for ‘Scarlet Soft’
Yes, I have Savannah pear and Tennosui bloomed with it last year as did Korean Giant to a small extent. It’s my latest blooming European type pear. Note that both trees are still acting immature, and neither bloomed at all this year. I have a strain that was advertised as Orient which overlapped well with Tennosui this year. (It’s not orient but the fruit kind of looks like Orient but ripens way too early in the season to be Orient.)
The one Savannah pear that ripened last year looked a bit like a Bosc. It ripened pretty late, had great melting flesh and flavor reminiscent of Bosc. However, it acts too fireblight resistant to be Bosc. I don’t know how productive its going to be. I know that it grows quite slowly for me and is slow to mature. Someone from growingfruit.org sent me the scion about five years ago, but I don’t remember who. They said that the original tree is growing in the yard of an old mansion in the historic district of Savannah Georgia. Anyway, that’s what I know about it. I’ll attach a photo if I can find it. If you want it and I don’t get hit real hard with fireblight again this year, I will send you some scion next winter. Thanks.

Thanks Coolman. I’m still researching pears and figuring out what blooms when and who makes good pollenizers.
Isn’t Shipova one that takes like 8 years to start flowering though?
Shipova is technically a pear hybrid. Look it up, it is about as far apart as two species can be and still produce offspring.
Mine is just about to flower for the first time since planting 12 years ago (and it was 2-years old when purchased)… So, not the best option even if cross-pollination works.
