In search of seedless watermelon variety

Hi folks,

I am in search of a seedless watermelon variety which doesn’t require pollinator and has a good taste/flavor. Let me know what you recommend.
Thank you,

I believe that they all require a pollinator. I really enjoy the smaller yellow meated varieties like Amarillo or Yellow Buttercup. Try Johnny’s Seeds. They have a great catalog.

Yes they all need a diploid pollinator variety. That would be any normal open pollinated or hybrid watermelon. They also require bees or expert hand pollination. It doesn’t sound like hand pollination is your thing. Bees show up eventually here but not as early in the season as I’d like.

My favorite diploid hybrid is Star Brite. I’ve grown many seedless but none has really stood out above the others.

Is Star Brite as tough to grow and fruit as the other seedless watemelons.

Star Brite is much easier to grow than any seedless. It pollinates itself. But it probably won’t work well for many people. Watermelons seem rather regional in their growing requirements. It’s certainly worth a try in Lubbock. You might find some trial results from Lubbock either TT or A&M.

I wish you lived next door to me, but not in alpine.
