May Grand is a medium size, freestone nectarine with yellow flesh. It was among the most popular commercial nectarine varieties in California in the late 1970s and 1980s, but has been replaced since by new varieties. It ripens in early June in the Fresno area (about 40 days before Fantasia).
This peach is from the ARS collection. It is a huge white cling peach, very early. It would be one of my favorites as it is very tasty for an early peach, but it is highly susceptible to some unusual kind of spot rot. You are probably in California somewhere and I doubt the rot will be a problem there.
In another thread, someone posted a video of a recent presentation given by Jerry Frecon. He says Ambrosia recently went off patent, and now âeveryone wants to grow Ambrosia,â indicating it is of reported high quality.
Thanks, Matt, but I am having trouble finding that. I found one reference to a Jerry Frecon video but nothing was mentioned about Ambrosia peach. Can you pin that down for me? Thanks.
Iâm not sure, but Ambrosia might be the same as Edwards Ambrosia, USPP9841P - Peach tree named `Edwards Ambrosia` - Google Patents.
Oops. Here is the thread from Vohd.
Turns out he mentions the Ambrosia apple, NOT the Ambrosia peach. My mistake- sorry!
Minute marker 36:00 of the video link mentions the Ambrosia⌠apple.
