Insect and Disease Identification Thread

Cut it open and see if there is a bug?

I should have. But i was already pruning so i didn’t want to get distracted.

Sweet cherry tree I planted last November has all these holes of varying shapes around the trunk. Doesn’t look quite like pictures of borers or sun scald but it’s something- any thoughts??
It went in the ground when it was cool/cold and I noticed them 3 months later in dead of winter still, though I didn’t know to really look when I got it.

Edit after doing more digging. In case anyone sees this insect and wants to know. This appears to be a Snakefly. The way it moved and looked at me gave the impression that this is a predator so I left it be. Looks like a beneficial beast and their larva hunt and kill borers.

Good or bad? Saw it watching me pretty cautiously on top the plum tree just now.I tried google id it was giving me earwigs.

Thanks LarryGene. They’ve been around since Jurassic period. Some call the living fossils(or relics). I hope to see more of them and or their larva. The larva looks like a lady beetle or green lacewing larva that leveled up.

I’m pretty sure my redlove era gave up the ghost this year. Im trying to figure out who the culprit was. Does this look like a rust?, Or is this likely a post mortem infection?

Is there any way to identify what is going on with my Prunus Mume? Two separate trees were affected by the exact same symptom - suddenly a few spots on a new branch started spreading out and the potion of the branch ended up dying. Otherwise the tree looks healthy and vigorous.

It looks like some sort of fungus hit my everbearing mulberry and pushed out, what appears to be, fruiting bodies. Anyone recognize it?

Saw this on my grape this morning.

Sorry the pictures arent as clear as I thought. Sort of crusty/powdery white stuff on edge of leafs and buds?
Would the plant be exuding this or did something just get spilled on it?

That’s probably the work of Ambrosia beetles. There is most likely information about them,on this forum.

It is a little difficult to tell by the pictures, but it could be Powdery mildew.

I’ll get some better ones tomorrow. It is sprinkling a bit now, so maybe whatever it is will be washed off.
I don’t think powdery mildew because it has been dry and this also looks very different from what I’ve seen.

Plum Curculio or some other insect?

And some peaches have this as well

A dozen or so apples across 4 or 5 trees look like this. All are just to the size of large marbles at this point. One spray of Myclobutanil and an insecticide since petal fall ~2 weeks ago. Most look fine but these few…

Early rust infection would be my guess. Both have peaked in my area. Hopefully my preventative measures held.

Any thoughts on what’s going on with my eggplant seedlings? It almost looks like herbicide damage, but they’re still growing OK and no other plants in the same soil have this issue.

My next thought is tobacco mosaic virus, but I don’t have any direct experience with that.

What’s gotten to my apples?

Can anyone help me identify what is causing my Pixie Crunch fruitlets to have these bumps/bulges? I originally assumed plum curculio, but I haven’t had much luck finding the half-moon scars that are usually referenced.

I need to thin the trees - should I take off anything that is misshapen or has a bulge?

Edit - I picked up quite a few from the ground around the tree, so it may be that it is doing thinning of the damaged fruitlets for me. Here is a picture of a handful of the damaged ones.

Thanks!
