Many thanks to the founders and moderators of Growing Fruit – I’ve been lurking here for years but finally decided to create an account, so I thought a short intro is probably in order.
My family has a 30 acre farm in (cold dry winter/hot humid summer) zone 6b, which includes about a 1 acre mixed fruit/nut orchard. Prior to our purchase, this was a very heavily sprayed place; we’ve been slowly converting to organic practices, although we’re not pursuing certification at this time. Our primary issues are fire blight, brown rot, cedar apple rust, and late frosts. Most trees have managed to make the transition, and we’ve been adding disease resistant varieties to replace those that did not.
