Is Crandall Clove Currant self-fertile?

The ones in front are Jungle Jane beds https://www.junglejanes.online/product-page/4-x4-raised-garden-bed (I get the Vigo ads too though) – the rear ones (hexagons) are serenity decor… Sunnydaze Galvanized Steel Raised Garden Bed Kit

I’ve been around those blooms all my life and they still catch me by surprise in the spring when i smell that wonderful clove like smell.

I have Crandall currants. I can’t imagine who said they are hard to root. Mine sucker like mad, and I’ve dug up some of the suckers and given them to friends. I’ve never actually tried rooting a branch, but they are dead easy to clone and propagate.

I don’t love the fruit. It’s dry. The flavor is… fruity. But not delicious to me. The best thing i ever did with them was freeze a bag and wait until apple season, when i mixed them with twice as much apple and baked a pie. That was a stellar pie with a rich and complex flavor. But the critters eat them now (like everything else) so i no longer bother to harvest them.

I still love the plant though, for the spring flowers. They look kinda like forsythia, but after the forsythia is done. And they smell just fabulous. I grow them near the house and revel in the odor every spring.

I’ll probably yank mine. I much prefer black currants and gooseberries

I presume your photo is of a currant/gooseberry cross, I am not familiar enough to specifically say if it is “jostaberry” or not…
although flowering currant it could be.

Ribes of some sort, anyhow…but not clove currant.

Thank you! I had no idea where to find beds like the galvanized ones. I was about to make my own.
