This is a plant growing wild in my yard. It is highly fragrant like some type of herbs. I thought this is some kind of Tarragon, not sure. We do not want to try to eat it since we can’t ID it.
Does it smell like anise? It could be tarragon. It’s definitely not one of the handful of wild plants that are dangerous. You’d be safe to take a small taste.
What @jcguarneri said. Looks like the creeping tarragon I grew for the first time this year. The anise smell is a good clue. I wouldn’t hesitate to taste a leaf or put two leaves on a piece of salmon before cooking.
I can’t tell from the smell. But it is intense. So this is why I suspect it is some kind of herbs. I bought a tarragon. The leaf is larger, but it is not winter hardy. This one is winter hardy.
Looks. Like tarragon to me as well. I grow it and love it!
Tarragon as a rule is herbaceous and perennial.
So my guess was about right. It was just too prohibitive to eat anything that we can’t identify… Thx.
The real giveaway with tarragon is the anise taste followed by a warming/slightly numbing sensation for good French tarragon. Seed grown tarragon often lacks that sensation and is a little harsher.
I am going to guess that it is tarragon too.
If it is invasive but weak and can not survive harsh winters it is French Tarragon.
If it is strong, hearty and can survive the harshest of winters it is Russian Tarragon…
