Hello, I bought this Tangelo Minneola tree early last year from Costco. Planted in the ground and it’s giving a handful of fruits this year now. I picked a couple of them today and they are sour. The fruits don’t have a hump like what the picture on the tag shows. I am wondering if this is actually a different tree, or should I leave the fruits on the tree longer before picking them. I am in San Jose, CA.
If they are sour then they are not ripe. There is a learning curve of color, lessening of firmness, and slight loosening of skin.
The shape of your fruit is fine.
Hi Richard, thank you for confirming. I was in a supermarket earlier and saw some Minneola Tangerines. Not sure if there are the same fruits but some of them did not have the hump. And I think I understand now what you meant by loosening of the skin. The one I picked were very hard to peel. I will keep watching for a few more weeks.
I have 1 in a 8 gal pot. mine have the hump but the colors spot on. they get a little soft when they are ripe. my favorite orange by far. i got 7 off of mine back in dec. early jan. hopefully next year ill get a little more. still fun to grow. my onwari satumas’ just starting to bloom. i only got 1 fruit last year. hopefully more set this year. i play bees with that one. pollinating with a q tip.
Does not look our Minneolas. No protuberance on that.
No problem. It depends on growing conditions. I can show you orchards of them.
