Is this fire blight on Harrow Delight pear tree?

I planted this Harrow Delight pear tree last year and it looked great all growing season into winter.

But I just noticed these darkened spots on the trunk. Could it be fire blight? What would you recommend doing given that it’s on the trunk?

It is right next to four Seckel trees, a Highland, a Hardy Wisconsin (Jung Seed), a Harrow Crisp, and a Harrow Sweet that are all doing fine.

Thanks!

I have my doubts. Is it possibly sunburn?

I suppose it could be – that’d be better than fire blight. It is on the southwest side of the tree right above where I had one of those white tree guards

Possibly fireblight. If it was me, id cut the blacked bark out and remove all discolored wood underneath. Then wait a few weeks. If it starts to heal over and you never see any golden ooze, then its not FB. If you see the ooze then your tree is probably cooked or at least needs to be cut way back possibly close to the graft.

The surface bark is still intact so it’s not fireblight. I don’t know what it is but I would not worry much about it.

Okay that is reassuring. Thank you!

Something hit the tree in the second photo you can clearly see the horizontal line across the trunk and branch. The black that encompases the lines appear to be healing tissue.

Oh that’s interesting - I hadn’t noticed that. Thanks for pointing that out
