Is This Fireblight even Without Black?

Unsure- weird lesions/cankers on Belle de Boskoop that I cut a ton of blight out of this summer. But there is no blackening of the tissue in the canker so it makes me wonder. Ideas?

I’ll propose ice.

Hmmm, not sure why ice damage would be localized. I wonder about some kind of canker.

Because it lasts longer in a crotch. Disease can follow.

Other occurences in this tree are not in crotches.

@scottfsmith Scott- does this look to you like canker of some sort? Or yet another look for blight?

If I had cut a ton of blight out of that tree already, I would guess it was a “mild hit” of fireblight. There are a few tiny bits of blackened wood there.

I’m pruning now and am finding a lot of blight remnants I had missed during the season. I hope the weather is not so blight-prone next spring as if it is there is lots of residue.

@scottfsmith Thank you Scott. Yes on magnification I see the telltale black bits. Am going through orchard with fine tooth comb otherwise yes we’ll have a rough follow-on year. Fortunately Booskoop is getting a near complete makeover to Sundance. BdB just too blight prone, meh taste, core rot. Other than that…
