Is this Fuyu persimmon worth keeping?

Hello, I need some help. I planted this persimmon tree a year ago and it looks dead for couple of months. Then this summer multiple new branches came out. I’m
Concerned because the grafted Fuyu stem is dead. I don’t know what is the rootstock used. Is this worth keeping or should I buy a new tree to replace? Thanks for your help!!

You probably need to get a new one, the rootstock is not likely to produce good fruit.

Yep, second that for a new one.

Would it be worth trying to graft to one of the suckers?

My opinion If you do grafting is to give that a try. Even though the scion is dead apparently the rootstock is ok and probably getting established in your soil. Replace the tree if you don’t graft.

probably worth keeping only if you are handy with grafting. If the rootstock was grown from seed, it may take many years for you to even find out if the quality of its fruit is worthy of the wait.

sadly with most long-lived trees, especially big-fruited ones, they tend to have protracted gestation periods and may take a decade before actually producing one or two fruits…
