New to fruit trees and while I was doing tree care last month I saw this on the trunk of our peach tree. Is it abnormal or diseased? The rest of the tree looks healthy and is flowering at the moment. (but it didn’t produce any fruit last year)

Thanks!
Hi
This looks a lot like Gummosis
An early symptom of Phytophthora gummosis is sap oozing from small cracks in the infected bark, giving the tree a bleeding appearance . The gumming may be washed off during heavy rain. The bark stays firm, dries, and eventually cracks and sloughs off.
You might check with your county extension agent to see if they agree and have any recommendations.

Thank you Dennis! Definitely looks like Gummosis. I’m guessing from sun scald since it’s on the side of the tree facing the sun. Thanks for the advice!
You might try this if it’s limited to one side only. I have read some growers use a small wire to insert inside the hole to fish out and kill borers. Permethrin is a pyrethroid insecticide that controls a wide range of insects. It is the most effective treatment currently available to homeowners for control of peach tree borers.
Good luck

Also if you use the search icon to search for “ peach tree borers” you can consult others who have more experience than I have in killing and preventing borers
