I lost 80 due to taxes acres when i got shot in the head in 1997 in coquille oregon . after4 yrs rehab i bought a house in florence oregon . ive been missing the farm life since . finally now 56 i feel i can do it all again . my problem is finding a place i can work.

right now your property probably went up X10 or more . its crazy ive offered asking price and someone else goes in and buys it for more then asking. so im almost giving up but still missing it all . helping out people who live in NY fix up a place they out bid me on and working it all it needs nopw is a house was an older farm but over grown so i had 2 yrs to fix it up for them but able to work it and put more food in my house by gardening and fixing it . they paid for the materials and i did the work easiest part was buying 4 piglets to clean the garden area and then let them out when the ygot older to fix the pastures now 2 in freezer 2 bred. on that i have 1.5 yrs left and all it needs is a house fixed gravity flow to the barn i built for them and yes its been a blast . i just wanna do this for myself on my own land but i like these people they are awesome and im glad they out bid me . i didnt realize how much it was going to take after buying it it was going to cost to fix it up. so now i changed from bare land to land with a home already on it lol

You were a little before my time. I am not familiar with your posts. So, I looked you up. Saw this one that caught my eye.

aap
I am talking about root pruning, that’s the subject, not tree pruning, sorry, my fault. If you do heavy root pruning you should also reduce the canopy as well, like unwanted branches to help the tree recover more quickly. Plenty of figs from my repotted trees.

Put up some example photos of your orchard here to archive what you were about. I’m always sorry to hear someone quitting trees. Someone said it best on the forum…they hope to die with a shovel in their hand.

Good luck in your new life!

It has been a pleasure to know you all these years. Please keep in touch with us once in a while. Your paw paws. Citrus, and persimmons photos were awesome.

NAFEX was my best source of info when I started growing fruit in the northeast about 35 years ago. I still haven’t had the heart to throw away my stacks of Pomona and I went to maybe 4 of their annual meetings, which used to be a big deal. Meeting people in person is so much more substantial for me than what I get from internet social life and NAFEX had some splendid personalities. I just can’t wrap my head around a person based on text, even if it includes personal sharing. Am I textually autistic?

Yup, we boomers are having to face our limits, but as long as I can crawl I will be tending plants.

Alan, I do read all your posts and I have to say that some of the words you use I never knew existed. High school and 2 year community college for website design when I was 72 years old. I had a stained glass business, the oldest in guy in class. The girl that sat next to me told me that I was the dumbest she knew! But I made it!!! I was on Google for a few years. Alan,
It’s great that you made it a successful business!!!. I retired as a robotics technician in the year 2000. Had to travel to several countries to study their systems!
College was free for seniors

I will be 60 yrs old soon and am planning to retire at 62 and start to travel. I probably will cut down on growing fruit trees in pots and concentrate on the inground trees like paw paws, Jujubes, Asian pears, and hybrid persimmons trials. I will miss the potted fig trees for sure. I can travel without worrying too much about them because they are quite low maintenance trees. Btw. I gave those beautiful doves to my brother in law in Kansas City Missouri. He is have a blast with them cooing all day long.

I think I know where you going to first, here is my guess, Java than Sumatra. Try there open markets. After that I would’t know!!
Spend 10 years in Semarang and Surabaya.
What a great time you will enjoy for the rest of your life!!!
